Shane Hyde is a politically and socially engaged British Figurative Artist. A contemporary history painter and critic of society and its power structures. His ideas are angered responses to current political, environmental and social concerns - climate change and the threat of environmental destruction, the domination of technology, the decline of diversity, the huge disparities between rich and poor, the retreat from knowledge, the obedience to authority, the rise of all forms of denialism, the right-wing resurgence, and what he sees as the dysfunctional society.

"Based on all recent environmental reports, I feel that there is no hope. We are currently on path for complete extinction. And unlike say Ai Weiwei, I don't just blame governments or corporations, I also blame the people. We have a democracy here in the UK and if the will of the people was truly for policies that mitigate climate change then politics would follow. As it is, all i see is ignorance, arrogance, denial and apathy."

Selected Works

"I feel a moral and social responsibility to be engaged with the contemporary issues. To criticise the power structures and the masses. To make warnings about our current trajectory towards extinction."
